Eric Franklin Steele

January 17, 1976 — July 11, 2021

Eric Franklin Steele January 17, 1976 - July 11, 2021 Eric was born January 17, 1976, in Idaho but raised in California, moving to Idaho as an adult to attend POST, Police Officers Standards and Training Academy, receiving his certification as a police officer. Eric worked for both the Twin Falls City Police and the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Departments for 12 years, serving as a patrolman, a detective, and in narcotics. He also was one of the few individuals in Idaho who taught EVOC, Emergency Vehicle Operation Course, through the College of Southern Idaho, for which he volunteered his time. Sheriff Tom Carter described Eric as having "his own way of enforcing laws and helping people. He could be sensitive or downright aggressive depending on what was appropriate at the time. And he had the ability to do that without fail. His professional abilities were never questioned." Eric was the first responder through his police work but also served as one throughout his life, reaching out to anyone who needed a helping hand. He truly possessed a warrior's heart. He had three siblings through his mother. The two youngest are adamant that Eric (beginning at about age 10) took care of them from birth, protecting them and making certain that all their basic needs were met. His brother said that, as children, Eric was the one person they could depend upon. He has remained their primary support throughout their lives. They consider him a father figure, crediting him with helping them develop the stable lives they now enjoy, with families of their own. Eric admired his grandparents, his "Papa and Grandma," who provided the care, support, and direction of his life, contributing so much to the loving and creative man he became. Eric was a man of so many skills and abilities that he could truly, build or repair any item. He particularly liked working with vehicles, restoring several, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. As evidenced by the hundreds of photos and memorabilia found in his small apartment and by the many memories he loved to share, the most important people in Eric's life have always been his two daughters, now teenagers. His daughters were always primary in his thoughts. He carried a picture of them in the lining of his hat so that he could see them throughout the day. And, they were always in his heart. Eric was taken from us, too soon, a kind, generous and compassionate man who possessed an incredible amount of potential. But, how do we describe a person's life? Through his education, accomplishments, work, family, etc.? Or, can a person be remembered for his soul, which is the true identity of a person? Eric did, indeed, have such an extraordinary soul. We lost a good man. We miss you, Eric: and, hope that you have found peace. Eric is survived by his daughters, four siblings, many close dear friends, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A private memorial gathering will be scheduled in the future. Those wishing to honor Eric's memory may consider donating to the charity of their choicein his name. Eric, you are missed. May you be at peace.
