Freida L. Young

March 8, 1932 — December 20, 2025

Twin Falls

Freida “Fritz” LeVerne Young, 93, of Twin Falls, ID passed away peacefully of natural causes in the early hours of December 20, 2025, at Chardonnay Assisted Living. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. Freida never met a stranger. Freida’s warmth and kindness touched countless lives during her long and fulfilling time on this earth. You know, she watched God make dirt.

Freida was proceeded in death by her parents Roy & Vivian Knighton, her brothers Orville and Bernard, her daughter Sherry Drummond, her husband Joseph Young and her grandson Kenneth “Luke” Young. She is survived by her sisters Bernadean (Bill) Daniels of Boise, Barbra (Blair) Hall of Twin Falls, Delores Durke of Hillsboro, Oregon, her son Kenneth (Tina) Young of Twin Falls, her grandchildren Emily Anderson of Boise, Madeline (Scott) Barnes of Boise, Alexandra (KC) McCabe of Boise, Lauren Drummond (Randy Plummer) of Boise, Will (Jessica) Drummond of Filer and seven great grandchildren.

Frieda was born on March 08, 1932, in Hoopup, Colorado. Freida was the first daughter and second child of Roy and Vivian Knighton. In 1935 in the midst of the great depression Roy and Vivian with their then three kids left Colorado and headed to Idaho hoping for a better life. Three more kids were added to the clan and in 1945 they moved from the north side to Murtaugh where Roy became the local blacksmith. Freida graduated from Murtaugh High School in 1950. She and Joe were married in Murtaugh on April 09, 1951 and were by each other’s side for the next 64 years. Joe had just completed Air Force basic training and received orders to report for duty, together they headed to Shreveport, Louisiana. After a few years in Shreveport Joe was promoted and reassigned to Lockbourne AFB in Columbus, Ohio where Sherry and Kenney were born. In 1963 they moved to Amarillo, Texas where they spent the next three years and then loaded up the truck and moved to San Bernadino, California. Joe had changed his MOS and became a flight engineer on C-141 cargo planes and spent the next three years flying in and out of Vietnam a couple of times a month. In 1969 Joe was promoted again and sent to Korat, Thailand where for the next year he flew reconnaissance missions over the Ho Chi Minh Trail, North Vietnam on a near daily basis. Moving the family to Twin Falls while in Vietnam, Freida was a dedicated military wife and held the fort down during Joe’s absence. To hear Freida tell it “I was a military wife, I’ve been alone all my life.” Joe retired from the Air Force in June of 1973 at Pope AFB, North Carolina, and the family returned to Twin Falls.

Freida was a devout Lutheran and very involved in the LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League). She and Joe were also ambassadors for the Lamplighters Association and traveled the country for many years, they enjoyed this very much.

Freida insisted that she would be the daycare provider for all five of her grandkids and was for many years. Joe and Freida also enjoyed their travel trailers and spent many years camping with Joe’s brother and his wife. Losing Sherry and Joe in two years was a heavy heartedness that never left her, and then we lost Luke…

Freida waited patiently for God to take her and at 0323 am on December 20 He did and has reunited her with the souls who have been waiting and they are having a blast. Freida, we will miss you.
