Obituary

Helen Louise Garvie, 76, of Shoshone, Idaho, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, surrounded by those who loved her.

Helen was born on November 13, 1949, in Trenton, Missouri, to Lavena C. Grimes and George R. Jewitt. She was the fourth of five children and carried with her a lifelong love of family and quiet strength.

On May 20, 1995, Helen married her longtime friend and love, Duncan Garvie. Together, they made their home in Shoshone, Idaho, where they enjoyed camping and traveling on their Harley-Davidson with friends, creating many cherished memories.

Helen was the mother of two daughters, Nickie (Dale) Lish and Jamie (Chris) Carnell. She was a proud grandmother to Shelby (Ethan) Saylors, Lucas (Kalei) Lish, Logan (Alexa) Lish, and Cooper Lish, and a loving great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. She expressed her love through crocheted blankets and handmade gifts that will be treasured for years to come.

Throughout her life, Helen worked a variety of jobs, always demonstrating dedication and a strong work ethic. She was known for her kind and gentle spirit, her quiet nature, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. She especially enjoyed camping with her girlfriends and traveling to Wendover with her beloved nieces, Ronda and Denise, creating many treasured memories. A few weeks before her passing Helen had the opportunity to meet and hold her 7th great-grandchild, Daphne, which was something she had been looking forward to since she had been born.

She is survived by her loving husband, Duncan Garvie; her daughters; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, May Whitworth; her brother, Claude Raines; and many extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Jewitt; her mother, Colleen Christensen; her brother, Mike Jewitt; her grandson, Cooper D. Lish; and her niece, Denise Veilleux.

Helen’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
