James "Jim" R. Bennion

James “Jim” Robert Bennion, 73, of Filer, Idaho, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at his home in Filer, Idaho. Jim was born on May 20, 1952, to Helen Mae Bowen and Robert Alvin Bennion. He grew up alongside three brothers, Kelly, Jack, and Jerr,y and one sister, Kathy.

As a child, Jim lived along the Snake River and Buffalo River, where his father worked as a dam keeper for the Bureau of Reclamation. He spent his early years in Minidoka, Lake Walcott, and Island Park before the area was developed. Later, the family moved to California, where Jim attended Chowchilla schools.

On June 30, 1972, Jim married Leta Berry. Together, they raised two children, Crystal Fern and Aaron James. Jim was a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren: Kenny Povalawski, Nicole Povalawski, Michael Bennion, Quinton Bennion, and Teagan Bennion. His greatest joy was found in his three great-grandchildren: Layne Michael Bennion, Memphis Fern Carter, and Willow Joyce Carter.

Jim loved to travel and especially cherished his trips to Mexico, Ireland, and most of all, Peru. He deeply enjoyed family camping trips and treasured time spent with friends and loved ones. Fishing was another passion, particularly trips shared with his in-laws, Rod Berry Sr., and John and Rita Peterson. One of the highlights of his life was fishing in Alaska with his brothers Jack and Jerry.

Jim’s greatest love was music. He found joy in playing and writing songs and performed with many musicians and bands over the years. A gifted guitarist, Jim, shared his talent generously and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim is survived by his wife, Leta Bennion, his son; Aaron Bennion, his daughter; Crystal Brassfield, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. His is also survived by his brothers; Jack Bennion, Jerry (Kathi) Bennion, and his sister; Kathy (Jon) Molt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Helen and Robert Bennion, his brother; Kelly Bennion, and his nephew; Jeffery Bennion.

A memorial service for Jim will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Wilks Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301.
