Joan Carol Holloway

December 30, 1947 — December 10, 2023

Joan was born on December 30, 1947 to Paul and Shirley Patterson of Filer, ID. She graduated from Filer High School in 1966. Joan then went on to college at CSI. While attending, she met the love of her life in February of 1968. Loren Holloway and Joan were married on October 26, 1968.

In July of 1970, they welcomed their daughter, Lori, in to the family. In 1973, Loren and Joan were able to purchase the Holloway farm north of Filer. In March of 1974, they welcomed another daughter, Cindy.

Joan was always involved in something crafty. She taught numerous people how to spin wool and weave linens. She gave spinning demonstrations at local elementary schools, as well as doing food preservation demonstrations at the local county fairs. She was also very talented at painting and working with wood. Joan even figured out the plans to build and put together a very large weaving loom.

Joan continued her education while raising her daughters. She obtained an Art Degree in the 1980's. A few years later she earned her Library Science Degree. She worked at some different jobs throughout the years, such as Clos Office Supply, Larsen Arts, and The Paper Peddler. But her highlight was being the Librarian at the Filer Public Library from 1990-1997,  and then working at the Buhl Public Library for a few years.

Joan became "Grandma" to Josh, Victor, Michael, and Hannah from 1994-2001.

Joan became very involved in the Church of the Brethren. The Church was a big part of her life and gave her a large family in the congregation. She was a counselor at Camp Stover for many years, touching the lives of numerous kids and adults, with the sharing of God's love.

Joan definitely had her share of health problems. She had numerous surgeries over the years. But especially difficult, was the diagnosis of liver failure in the fall of 2014. After getting extremely ill, she was blessed to receive her second chance at life. On June 3, 2015, she received her liver transplant at the University of Utah Hospital. After months of rehabilitation and determination, she and Loren were able to come back home. By February of 2016, she was already  teaching another group of ladies how to weave again. As the years have gone by, Joan has faced many more trials with skin cancer. Her medications made the battle even more difficult.

Joan is survived by her loving and caregiving husband of 55 years, Loren Holloway. Her daughters; Lori Holt (John), and Cindy Azevedo (Victor). Grandchildren; Josh Holt, Victor Azevedo Jr., Michael Holt (Darby), and Hannah Bettencourt (Colby). Joan is also survived by her four sisters.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to all of the friends and family over the years. As well as such gratitude for medical providers: University of Utah, St. Lukes, numerous doctors, nurses, and aides. But most recently, Visions Hospice, for the loving care each of you provided during her final days.

A celebration of Joan's life may be held at a later date.

God bless you Grandma- We love you so much
