Joe Robinson

November 5, 1939 — April 3, 2025

Joseph “Joe” Sidwell Robinson, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 3, 2025, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Born on November 5, 1939, in Idaho Falls, he was the ninth and youngest child of Oliver LeRoy Robinson and Julia Lott Robinson. Although Julia initially expressed surprise—and perhaps a touch of dismay—at having another child in her mid-forties, she later declared that Joe became one of the greatest joys of her life -- likely after he had outgrown his youthful mischief.

Joe was raised on the family homestead in Ucon, Idaho, where he developed a hands-on understanding of farming—often by doing exactly what he wasn’t supposed to. His mechanical aptitude emerged early and remained a lifelong strength. During high school, he found great joy in music, participating in madrigals, choirs, and several band organizations. He cherished the close harmonies and the camaraderie that came with making music, and he carried that love throughout his life. Alongside his musical pursuits, he worked on the farm and at Sam Hill’s garage in Ucon.

After graduating, Joe attended Ricks College, where he met and married Darlene Tidwell. His mechanical talents earned him a scholarship to Idaho State University’s diesel program, laying the foundation for a life spent—sometimes with an expletive or two—working on engines. Together, Joe and Darlene raised five children—Darla, JoAnn, Chris, Darren, and Carol—while living in Eastern Idaho, Midvale, Utah, and Twin Falls, Idaho.

While in Midvale, the family operated an A&W franchise. In 1970, they moved to Twin Falls and opened Robinson’s Family Drive-In, a beloved local favorite in the Magic Valley. Many still fondly remember the Yankee Burgers, Ham Yankees, Rebel Burgers—and, of course, the fish and chips. Joe was most often found behind the counter: apron on, spatula in hand, and a smile on his face.

After parting ways with Darlene, Joe began a long and proud career as a truck driver for Everton Mattress Factory, delivering across the Northwest with dedication and reliability. In 1987, he married Carlene “Carli” Krause Robinson. Their bond remained strong through the years as they built a blended family full of love and laughter. Joe embraced Carli’s children as his own and became affectionately known as “Grandpa Joe” to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joe was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a man with a true servant’s heart. Whether he was repairing a roof, weeding the stake fields, delivering meals to someone in need, or cooking for church events, and family gatherings, he exemplified quiet, consistent service—more often than not with Carli at his side. He showed his love through action, and his acts of kindness left lasting impressions on all who knew him.

Family was the center of Joe’s life. He rarely missed a milestone—be it a baby blessing, baptism, graduation, mission farewell or homecoming, wedding, or funeral. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially at family gatherings. Joe was most often found near a grill or at the center of a story circle, telling jokes or recounting tales from his many adventures. If someone needed help moving, he was there to pack, load, and unload. It was Joe who helped the clueless members of his large family get from one place to the other. In his later years, he loved traveling with Carli to visit loved ones and explore new places. Though modern technology kept him connected, it also brought more than its fair share of frustration—especially his cell phone, TV remote, computer, TV, and hearing aids. If there’s no technology in heaven, Joe will truly rest in peace.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Carli Robinson of Twin Falls, ID; his sister, Marie Glenn (Don) of Jerome, ID; children Donna Norman (James) of Orem, UT; Ferol White (Patrick Niemeyer) of Honomu, HI; Darla Montgomery (Roger) of Bountiful, UT; Jollee Lloyd (John) of South Jordan, UT; JoAnn Schroedter (Paul) of Twin Falls, ID; Darren Robinson (Melisa) of Rexburg, ID; Carol Jones (Gary) of Twin Falls, ID; and Paula Gadsby (Travis) of Twin Falls, ID; former daughter-in-law Tara Wicker (Howard) of Twin Falls, ID; his former wife, Darlene Robinson of Rexburg, ID; 21 grandchildren; 28¾ great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Julia Robinson; his son, Chris Robinson; and his siblings: Virginia Reay (Von), Eli Robinson (Blanche), Aaron Robinson (Beth), LaRue Clark (Terry), Lee Robinson (Thora), Dale Robinson, and Donna Woodland (Harry); as well as many dear loved ones who surely welcomed him home.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 847 Eastland Dr. N., Twin Falls, Idaho 83301. A family visitation will precede the service from 10:30 to 11:45 AM at the same location.

May Joe be remembered for his humor, his hard work, his unwavering devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ and family —and every burger flipped with love behind the drive-in or any grill.
