Hazel Gilson

Katy “Hazel” Gilson, age 98, passed peacefully in her sleep on July 10th, 2025, at her residence in St. George, UT.

Hazel was born on June 8th, 1927, in Silver Point, TN, to Swen and Maggie Lafever. At about the age of 13 Hazel and her family moved to Rexburg, Idaho where she completed high school. She was the 13th of 15 children. Hazel was married to Jack Gilson on December 27, 1947. They were married for over 70 years prior to his passing in September of 2017.

Hazel and Jack had a small farm in Washington state where they raised their family. They made Oregon their home for a few years while Jack followed construction. They returned to the farm where they lived until Jack’s retirement in 1988. They then moved to Twin Falls to live out their senior years. After Jack’s passing Hazel moved to St. George to live where they had spent time as snowbirds.

Hazel was a wonderful example of love and devotion to her family and friends. She shared her many talents of gardening, quilting, and other crafts with family and loved ones. She was known and loved by all for her amazing bottled dill pickles and green beans that she gladly shared with all who came to eat at her table. Hazel was quick to make friends and was loved by many. She was always a helpful and caring person.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Gilson Sr., and son, Jack Gilson Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Louise (Al) Lough; sons Frank (Debbie) Gilson and Clyde (Johnna) Gilson; 15 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Wilks Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301.

She is interred at Sunset Memorial Park, 2296 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301.
