Marjorie Ruth Parks, born June 29, 1933 to John Willis Richards and Martha Lucille Evans, peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of her family on March 15, 2025. She was the third of five children and from an early age, her gentle spirit and unwavering integrity set her apart.
Marjorie's life was defined by her infinite love for her children and on her 90th birthday, she joyfully welcomed Joe (Linda) Szerwo into the family declaring "You are part of this family whether you like it or not." That was Marjorie - kind, inclusive, and always full of heart. Soft-spoken yet strong, Marjorie was a woman of deep affection and quiet grace. She found joy in simple pleasures: watching faith based programs, Olympic ice skating, and her favorite cooking shows. She had a special fondness for word search puzzles and at the age of 90, she tackled the challenge of learning to speak Spanish - a testament to her enduring spirit of curiosity and resilience.
Throughout her life, Marjorie held many jobs, each one approached with care and humility. One of the most inspiring was her role as a live-in nanny at an early age, where she lovingly cared for children and nurtured young lives with her natural warmth. She later worked in a fish factory, assembled windshield wiper blades, served as a motel room attendant, and created a welcoming home as a devoted homemaker.
In the kitchen, Marjorie learned to cook with eight little ones clinging to her apron strings, turning everyday meals into lessons in love, patience, and resourcefulness. Later in life, even into her 90s, she remained a beloved helper and lively companion - chopping, stirring, and singing along to the voices of Whitney Houston and Elvis Presley, filling the kitchen with music, laughter, and a timeless sense of joy.
Through the years Marjorie endured the heartache of losing many beloved family members including her parents, aunts, uncles, brothers and a sister. Among the most profound losses were her loving husband Harold Eugene Parks, her cherished daughter Deborah Ann Proctor, and her precious great-granddaughter Eleanor Kay Sloan.
Though grief marked her path, her strength and faith carried her forward, and her love for her family never waned.
She is survived by her children: Tom, Steve, Gwen, Karen, Cindy, Ron, Melissa, and her brother Tom Richards, as well as their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members who loved and admired her deeply.
Her favorite saying, "It's a good life if you don't weaken," captures the strength, hope, and sweetness she carried throughout her life.
She was truly one of a kind, and her legacy of love, laughter, and steadfast faith will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.
