Michael Contreras Jr., 53, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, in Kimberly, Idaho. He was born on March 28, 1972, in Belen, New Mexico, to Joanna Moya and Miguel Contreras. He spent his childhood in Belen before relocating to Savannah, Georgia, where he lived for 20 years and honed his skills as a journeyman in the construction industry. Later in life, he found his way to Twin Falls, Idaho, where he spent his final years.
Michael's personality was marked by a dedication to family and his friends; he had a close circle, and if you were in it, you felt it. He took great joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was spending time with his family, casting a line at his favorite fishing spot, or having family and friends over for a cookout. However, nothing filled his heart more than the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren. He treasured each and every one of them, relishing the laughter, play, and bonding moments that they shared. The love he imparted to them will forever be etched in their hearts. Michael and Sara were married in Belen, New Mexico, in 2017, where they were blessed with 8 years of marriage.
At work, Michael found joy where he worked with many dear friends, along with being able to show his skills after working in construction for over 20 years. He was a man who rarely sat idle; when he wasn’t working, he could be found fixing things around the house or lending a helping hand to those in need. Throughout his life, Michael embodied a spirit of generosity and hard work. Michael often spoke highly of Brian Bradshaw, whose friendship turned ordinary workdays into joyful memories. Michael returned home each day with stories that reflected the delight he found in his work environment.
Most recently, Michael was able to reconnect with his son, Bo, through a cousin of Michael's. They had planned to see each other this year in New Mexico for Thanksgiving, and unfortunately, due to Michael’s passing were not able to do so. Michael was looking forward to meeting Bo and getting to build this relationship with his son he had been in touch with for many years.
Michael is survived by his loving wife; Sara Contreras, his son; Bo (Mishayla) Taylor, his stepsons; Dominic (Teresa) Quintana, Pete (Cecilia) Esquivel, his stepdaughters; Alicia (Peter) Garza, Andrea Esquivel, Maria Esquivel, his father; Miguel (Juanita) Contreras, his mother; Joanna Johnson, and his brother; Edwin Contreras. Michael leaves behind a large and loving family, including 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, alongside many other relatives and dear friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his sister; Jennifer Contreras, and his grandmother; Franxisa Lara Hermosillo.
A Viewing for Michael will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Wilks Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301.
