Scott Michael Luby, 73, of Buhl, Idaho, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Woodland Assisted Living.
Born in Caldwell, Idaho, to Rowene House and Dale R. Luby, Scott was the youngest of four children. Growing up in Idaho, he developed an early love for the outdoors. As a boy, he was active in the Boy Scouts, where he built the foundation for the self-reliance and work ethic that would define his life. He became especially known for raising and training bird dogs, earning trophies and recognition for their skill in competition.
Scott later moved to the Castleford, Idaho area to work for Walter Wells. It was there that he met Jaqueline Cramer, who would become his wife and lifelong partner. Together they welcomed their son, Dusty, in May of 1975. Scott was a devoted husband and father who took pride in providing for his family through hard work and dedication.
When Dusty joined 4-H, Scott founded Balanced Rock Beef, turning his passion for ranching and farming into a family-centered endeavor. He found joy in caring for livestock, working the land. In addition to ranching, Scott enjoyed woodworking, keeping busy with projects, and lending his skills wherever they were needed.
An avid outdoorsman, Scott loved hunting, fishing, and taking road trips. He was a gifted storyteller who never missed an opportunity to share a memory or a bit of hard-earned wisdom. If you spent any time with Scott, you likely walked away with a story — and maybe a lesson — you wouldn’t forget.
Scott was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jaqueline Lea Luby; his son, Dusty Dale Luby; his parents Dale Luby and Rowene House; his paternal grandparents, Edmond and Hazel Thompson Luby; his maternal grandparents, Jewell and Hazel VanHuss House; his sisters, Janice Luby Simmons and Pam Easley; his brother, Reginald Patrick “Reg” Luby; and his brother-in-law, Greg Easley.
He is survived by his niece Dani (Bret) Schrenk of Buhl; his grandson, Dexter Luby (Albert) of Boise; his nephew Wes (Melodie) Wilson of Fairfield; his nephew Robin (Tina) Wilson of Buhl; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.
