Shirley Rae Goold (Butler) passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, after a long battle with congestive heart failure at Serenity Transitional Care in Twin Falls, Idaho, at the age of 79 years.
She was born on January 19, 1946, to Ralph and Ola Butler and grew up on the Butler Farm in Pleasant Valley, south of Kimberly, Idaho. She was the youngest of six children. Shirley loved growing up on the farm and found her love for livestock while helping her father. A favorite memory was when they would push cattle south in the spring and bring them home from the South Hills in the fall — traditions that stayed close to her heart throughout her life.
During her youth, Shirley was very active in 4-H and FFA, where she further developed her lifelong passion for livestock and agriculture. She passed down these interests to future generations in her children and grandchildren.
On September 18, 1965, Shirley married the love of her life, Calvin Goold. They shared 59 wonderful years together, building a life rooted in love, hard work, and family. Shirley worked alongside Calvin running their business, Goold Manufacturing. She contributed greatly to its success with her organization and management skills.
Shirley continued to enjoy raising cattle as an adult and being involved in 4-H and High School Rodeos. She took great pride in supporting her boys as they traveled to rodeos and stock shows. Some of her fondest memories involved helping to break steers to lead and clipping them for the fair. In her later years, her activities were limited due to her health. She was still excited for updates in her grandchildren’s lives and supported local businesses like the Depot Grill. She continued to own cattle and had a faithful border collie, Annie, who was at her side.
Shirley’s memory lives on through her husband, Calvin Goold and her sons, Stan, Lowell, Matt, and Casey. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Jessica Garnett, Ashleigh Wupper, Kelton Goold, Bailey Goold, Kari Goold, Danny Goold, Carlee Goold, Thomas Goold, Lily Goold, and Joey Goold; as well as her four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joey Marie; her parents, Ralph and Ola Butler; and her siblings, Juanita Wisecaver, Raymond Butler, Helen Berline, Wilbur Butler, and Robert "Bob" Butler.
