Susan Elaine Baird

August 18, 1947 — September 9, 2025

Twin Falls

Susan Elaine Baird, 78, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Grace Assisted Living in Twin Falls, Idaho, after battling dementia for the past few years. She lived a life full of love, compassion, and dedication.

Susan was born to Ivan and Opal (Lee) Miller on August 18, 1947, in Gooding, Idaho. Susan was one of 11 siblings born to Ivan and Opal. The family lived in Gooding, Idaho, and Carey, Idaho, for many years before moving to Kimberly, Idaho.

Throughout her life, Susan held various jobs, primarily as a secretary, adapting to the changes that came with her husband Donald's career, which took their family from Idaho to Missouri, Oregon, and Washington before returning to Twin Falls. She was part of the pioneering classes at the College of Southern Idaho in 1966, where she furthered her education in administration after receiving her high school diploma from Kimberly High School in 1965.

Susan then met the love of her life, Donald Allen Baird, while he was home on leave from the United States Army. They later married in Reno, Nevada, on January 29, 1967. They were married for 56 cherished years at the time of Donald's passing in 2023. Susan was a devoted wife and proud mother to their two children, James and Connie. Her commitment to her family was evident in her tireless efforts as both a homemaker and working professional, always striving to create a loving home environment.

Susan was known for her sweet and loving personality, touching the lives of those around her. Her passionate involvement with Campfire, 4-H, and chaperoning many school band trips highlighted her love for nurturing children and supporting their growth. Later, she helped with Project Rudolph, assisting with sending cards and care packages to the deployed military service men and women. This commitment extended to her interests, which included gardening—both flowers and vegetables—as well as camping, fishing, deer hunting, and spending precious moments with her family.

Susan loved adventures and traveling. Susan and Don took many trips throughout the years, but they both fell in love with the ocean at Lincoln City, Oregon, where they would take an annual trip every fall just after Labor Day. Susan and her sisters, Sharron and Kathrine, had a love of genealogy, which they had enjoyed many adventures back east, traipsing through old cemeteries looking for long-lost family members. They took multiple cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. They took countless road trips to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Florida, Washington, and in between. Susan had a love for the mountains, where she camped at any chance she had. Early trips with Vicki, Sharon, Kathrine, and later with Tony, Tereasa, and their families. She would ride along anywhere Connie would take her on our trip back to Kentucky to see Timothy graduate from boot camp, camping with the family, and even on the back of a 4-wheeler.

Susan Elaine Baird will be remembered for her kindness, enthusiasm, and the memorable impact she made on all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, James Barid, and her daughter, Connie (Carl) Ihler, her grandchildren, Timmothy Waggoner, Ethan Ihler, Garrett Ihler, and Danielle (Haisen) Workman, along with her great-grandchildren, Jackson Waggoner, Benjamin Ihler, Bexlie Workman, and Jacee Clark, Kadin Ince and Lucille Doherty, her sisters, Sharon (Norris) Enloe, Kathrine Berg, Tereasa (Tony) Kissinger, Vicki Coss, and Linda Lighter, along with her brother, Roy Miller and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Baird, her parents Ivan and Opal Miller, her sister Donna Miller, her sister Diane Parsons, her brother Robert Miller, her brother Donald Miller, and her grandson Zachary Baird.
