Thomas Reedy, 91, a longtime resident of Lander, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at DeSano Place Village in Jerome, Idaho, on October 4, 2025.

Born on March 18, 1934, in Gooding, Idaho, he was the son of the late James M. and Carrie Reedy. Tom was raised on a rural ranch in south central Idaho, where he learned the value of hard work and how to use his hands to fix things that were broken and create things of need.

At the age of 18, Tom joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a naval aviator from January 1955 through May 1958. Just before Tom was honorably discharged from the Navy, he met the love of his life, Eileen Bable. They were married on August 10, 1959.

In the early 1960s, they settled in Boulder, Colorado, where Tom worked as an electrical technician for Ball Industries. They truly loved that part of the country. The happy couple spent most of their free time camping, hiking, and admiring the beauty of the great outdoors. As the population of Boulder grew, it became too crowded for Tom and Eileen, so they started looking for a new place to live.

Tom loved the mountains, and because of his equal passion for planes and aviation, in the late 70’s, they moved to Lander, Wyoming, where Tom found a job as an electrician. Tom would end up owning two airplanes — a red and yellow Aeronca Champ that he bought, and a blue and yellow Pietenpol that was a labor of love. Not a kit, every part was meticulously handcrafted and built by himself, taking him seven years and nine months to complete. The Pietenpol was lovingly referred to as a flying grandfather clock, as it was absolutely perfect in every way.

Through the years, Tom and Eileen enjoyed many trips, taking in a bird’s-eye view of the mountains and Wyoming landscape. Tom would often say, “Some people call me a pessimist, but I can tell you one thing, a pessimist doesn’t fly a plane he built by himself through the mountains.”

They also enjoyed hiking and would set out with a picnic in tote to explore the lush forests and take in the serene countryside of the Roaring Fork area, along with their other favorite Wyoming spots. Tom and Eileen had a passionate love for their pets, who always joined them on their adventures.

Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Eileen Bable Reedy; his parents, James M. and Carrie Reedy; his brothers, Dale Reedy and James Reedy; and a sister who passed before Tom was born, Lena (whom he often spoke of and longed for his entire life).

Tom is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the compassionate care of Wilks Magic Valley Funeral Home, located in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Inurnment for Tom and Eileen will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Fairfield, Idaho, at a family plot in the Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, 626 Shoshone Street, Lander, WY 82520, where Tom and Eileen were members for 43 years.
