Violet M Bortz

Violet Marie Cox Bortz, 98, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Canyon Senior Living in Twin Falls, Idaho.

She was born in Caldwell County, Missouri, on September 15, 1927, the youngest of eight children born to Jessie Oliver Cox and Maudie Hopper Cox. Violet’s father and brothers did custom harvesting, and the family moved between Missouri and Idaho each year from 1937 to 1946. Violet graduated from Cowgill High School, Missouri, in 1945, before the family permanently settled in Kimberly, Idaho, in 1946.

After graduation, Violet worked at the Twin Falls Bank and Trust. She married Edward H. Bortz, Jr., on March 8, 1948, in Burley, Idaho, and they farmed many rental properties in the Magic Valley for the first years of their married life. In addition to raising their three sons: Ron, Garry, and Dennis, Violet used her many talents and resourcefulness to find employment that helped the Bortz family make ends meet. She did everything from alterations and drape making, to working in bean warehouses and on potato harvesters, to starting her own upholstery business out of her home.

After retirement, Violet and Ed enjoyed camping and fishing, and spending time with their family. Violet was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, about which her life was centered.

She is survived by her three sons: Ron (Sandy) Bortz of Meridian, Idaho; Garry (Gini) Bortz of Fresno, California; and Dennis (Gala) Bortz of Twin Falls. In addition, she is survived by 6 grandchildren: Steve (Melanie) Bortz, Kevin (Emily) Bortz, Brennon (Whitney) Bortz, Ryan (Abby) Bortz, Natasha (Kai) Boschma, and Andrew (Samara) Bortz. Violet is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, siblings, and husband.

The family is very grateful for the loving care given to Violet by the staff members of Grace Assisted Living, Canyons Senior Living, and Visions Hospice.

A Viewing will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Wilks Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301. Violet’s Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 1:30 pm at Wilks Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301, with a viewing from 12:30 pm to 1:15 pm, also at the funeral home. Violet will then be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park, 2296 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301.
