Kenneth Daw

July 25, 1933 — May 8, 2018

Kenneth Everett Daw passed away in Bellevue, Washington, on May 8, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Ken was born on July 25, 1933, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Arthur Frederick Daw and Dora Everett Daw. Shortly thereafter he moved with his family to Hansen, Idaho, which he considered his hometown for the rest of his life. He was a gifted high school athlete, playing on the state championship football team from Hansen, in 1950. He graduated from Hansen High School the following spring. He married his high school sweetheart, Bula Prior, on June 15, 1952. Ken graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1955, and then served as an officer in the Army for two years. Upon his discharge he moved back to the Hansen area where he soon partnered with his father as proprietors of Daw’s Market, which he would continue to own and operate until 1997.

While raising his family, Ken was active in a wide-range of community service in both volunteer and elected positions, including serving on the town and school boards, coaching sports teams, working as a 4-H club leader, participating as a volunteer fireman and army reservist, and many other civic-minded activities. The town of Hansen honored him and his wife for their service by naming them Grand Marshalls of the town’s annual parade and celebration.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, and his oldest son, Charles Arthur (Mari). He is survived by his brothers, Leonard (Gerry) and Wayne, by his wife of 66 years, Bula, by his sons, Kurt (Hillary), Kris (Shawni) and Craig (Linda), by his seven grandchildren: Alex, Kelli (Jeff Washburn), David (Nikki Thayer), Alyssa (Evan Caulley), Aron, Conner and Casey, by one great-granddaughter, Maya Caulley, and by seven nieces and a nephew.

A celebration of his life will be held at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home on Monday, May 14, from 3-5pm. In lieu of flowers the family encourages gifts in his name to the Hansen High School Boosters’ Club.
